i’ve been missing new york a lot lately.
i always loved that new york city had a publication with my initials on it 🙂 {notice the stuck-on gum to the left}
these are all over lower manhattan…
a friend of mine posted some testimonials on her blog recently… and a couple of them were so touching that it got me thinking about just how much of a difference it makes for me as an artist when someone truly appreciates what it is i do. we ALL feel that way, no doubt – about whatever it is we do that people notice, appreciate, and respect.
the more i fine-tune what it is i am best at and the more i discover who i sincerely am, the more i realize that when we are ALL able to truly be ourselves, with no judgement or fear of rejection, the more we can ALL do what we do best and be mutually respected, appreciated, and noticed for it.
having said all that, i was inspired to share my favourite testimonial someone once wrote for me. i had the pleasure of working with this lovely man on a brisk fall romp through lower manhattan. we shot over 500 photos and about a dozen wardrobe changes in 3 hours. david homyk is a true gentleman, a doll. hilarious and charming, open and endearing. we worked on several images for an online magazine story about david’s music. he has since gone on to do such amazing things with his career and i am just honoured to have had the pleasure of creating some amazing editorial portraits with him. and i mean, it’s not just because he’s a total babe :
“leave it to audrey, she is a master at capturing the authenticity of the moment where the human spirit is available in its entirety…”

i decided – i don’t showcase enough of my “work” — i believe i am a relatively amazing portrait fotographer. in case you’ve never seen my portrait work, click here.
i wanted to share some of my favourite portrait sessions over the years and also share new ones as they are discovered… and this collection is for sure one of my favourites. she’s so spunky! love her pink stripe… and the yummy lighting that day on our romp through lower manhattan around sunset…

x marks the spot – snow is on the way to colorado!
i’m looking forward to making a snowman this weekend.
i also want to thank those of you who have nominated me for an award. i’m not that familiar with how the award system goes here on wordpress, but i’m beyond humbled and grateful for the recognition! unfortunately, i can’t keep up with the nominations {there’s not as many as it sounds, i just don’t have time to respond right now!} but i wanted to extend an extremely warm thank you to lesley and juliem this time for the liebster award nominations – and i want to encourage you all to keep reading! i’m so grateful to have almost 400 followers, a whopping 10,000 views, and over 200 posts in less than a year. you all keep the fire lit under me and inspire me every day to do more and to be more.
a very sincere thank you. enjoy the weekend!
i love the shake-it app.
perhaps an oldie compared to so many of the constantly new amazing things out there now, but i am loyal to my shake-it app and i still love it… makes me want to think of a sweet project for my polaroid… anyway, here are a few of my favourite shake-it fotos from my days in the big apple…

ever since the groundhog told us we’ll have an early spring, i’ve been itching to put on some flip-flops and have a picnic in the sun! – i got spring fever!
spring always makes me think of opportunity, new beginning, an open horizon. we’ve stepped into a new year with force, with power, with purpose… and now we are on the brink of an early horizon line, full of promise and bright shining light, endless colour, and tons of potential!
we got some snow here in colorado – it’s finally starting to look and feel like winter! 60 degree days took over our last week of january, but then the white stuff came – it finally came! we need the moisture so bad here, and so i’m welcoming it with gratitude. though i heart the 330 days of sunshine we tend to get… i also heart the snow…
and it usually comes WITH sunshine, so it’s a win/win. 🙂
have a great day!
it’s high time i shoot some more self-portraits. the last time i did that was in 2010. and it’s very liberating and healthy for me to occasionally get in FRONT of the camera. it’s kind of an unspoken general rule – photographers don’t like being photographed. i don’t mind it sometimes, so long as i’m the one taking the pictures! 😉
i remembered this collection when i was organizing my files recently. sometimes i feel like about 86 personalities inside this tiny little physical form of a body. i feel very introspective at the moment – so i thought i’d share these fotos which emulate just that.
my aunt gave this to me for christmas. how cute is this?!
i totally thought it was a new lense at first! …
they did a good job on the detail… Continue reading
well, you may have guessed this would be another blog about new york city… i can’t believe it’s been a year and a half since i moved… i miss it lots in some ways, but i also know it was the right thing to do to move when i did. i love to reminisce about my days in the big apple because sometimes i take for granted just how incredible that experience was. i feel i don’t always appreciate myself or the experience enough… not to mention, all the awesome images i captured while there!
this collection is a special one. when i look through it, i can very easily be whisked away to this very enchanting night. the ambiance, the dinner that was prepared for me, the dessert, too!, the sky, the brisk air, the moonrise, the way i felt… so vividly i remember it. the very last foto in this blog encompasses the whole evening. but please be patient and scroll through all of them first 😉
thanks for sharing this with me…
i always loved the fire escapes in the city… Continue reading
well – for me, it seems to be EVERYWHERE i look lately — even my toilet paper has a heart-pattern on it.
the truth is – i’m changing, and therefore – so is the world i {we} live in.

LOVE this scarf… i just might have to wear it every day 😉

a new year is ahead of us. {hooray!} this means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. for me, it means manifesting only good things derived from light, happiness, peace, honesty, community, harmony, respect, and most of all – LOVE. because that’s just how it has to be… and it will be.
and for a lot of people, new year’s resolutions are a common theme – many of which include things like “living a healthier lifestyle” or “eating better” and the like. so in the spirit of new beginnings and living a healthier, simpler, easier life – here is a recipe i came up with a couple weeks ago that will blow your taste-buds away. they’ll want to be calling more buds and be like, “dude, you gotta try this!”
easy. healthy. simple. delicious.
that’s how i roll. just like these “amazeballs” – and they’re sweet and savory – like me 😉 Continue reading
i love doors. i especially love to fotograph doors. my love for them was discovered during my days living and working in manhattan, wandering aimlessly through the streets with my camera, snapping away… so many doors… so many stories behind them… so many opportunities around represented in each one… i love and miss that place, and always will.
not to be confused with a clementine or “cutie” that you find in conventional grocery stores, you can typically purchase these tasty delights in most grocery stores, in the produce section… but only in the winter season.
meet the satsuma tangerine… also {rather appropriately} referred to as a “stem and leaf” tangerine… Continue reading
hooray for snowfall this week here in colorado! we SO needed it!!! we need a lot more, but the mountains got much more than we did in the city, and i’m grateful anyway. my roommate and i went out to snap a few fotos near the lake by the house, but it was seriously freezing {about 18 degrees}, so i didn’t stay out long. just long enough capture the mood and run back in 🙂
we didn’t get much – not even an inch. Continue reading
a dear friend of mine took me to this marvelous place a few years back and i fell in love. of course – autumn in new york is always amazing, even when it’s late autumn. the leaves had mostly fallen off at this point, but it created a blanket that covered the forest floor and there were traces of colour left on some of the trees. very enchanting, this place. i wasn’t sure if the blair witch was going to pop out and scare me or if fairies were going to come in and sweep me away to narnia…
the crispness in the air was memorable and the overcast lighting created a moody effect, so i snapped some artsy fotos with my iphone :
