hey gang, i hope you enjoyed the weekend.
lots of fun things happening around here at food and foto! for starters, i gained my 600th {+} follower last week! i am always so humbled and grateful when anyone subscribes to the blog. please allow me to take this moment to thank those of you who take time to read and follow and comment and engage… i just really appreciate it! this blog wouldn’t be the same if it weren’t for you!
also, i received an email from a lovely rep at Hilary’s Eat Well a few weeks ago, asking if i would be interested in trying and giving feedback on some of their products. i was familiar with hilary’s eat well, but had never actually had the pleasure of eating any of their products… so i was super excited for the opportunity to not only try them, but to write about it on my blog! my first official review 😀
once i read up on the company, i was even more excited for the experience. Continue reading
my kitty, callee, is incredibly adorable… like, really! the fotos don’t really do her much justice… and unfortunately she’s too timid to show off her cuteness around many people other than myself… i’m blessed and grateful that she chose me… she’s so ridiculous and wonderful and funny and – ADORABLE!
hiding behind the blinds… super spy kitty.
literally wearing my swim suit after i was sunbathing one day… weirdo.
doing the quintessential cat-in-the-box thing… friggin ridiculous.
i feel blessed to have had this experience. i remember the night very well… and i cherish the memories of being on a sailboat, in the hudson river, at sunset, drinking wine and photographing beautiful people and things. it was just an absolutely magnificent night.
t’was a foto-worthy, clear night, as well – perfect for sailing! 🙂
mmmmm….
tiny little island with infinite possibilities…. i miss you, manhattan!
enjoy the weekend, ya’ll!
sometimes i feel like my fotographs speak better than i do…

i had the pleasure of fotographing miss A last weekend…
this camera-lovin’ beauty is graduating high school this year – woot!! such a natural in front of the lense, too!
one of my favourite snacks – grab a head of kale and break up into “chip” size pieces… then rinse, sprinkle on oil of your choice {i stick with EVOO, but coconut oil is great, too!} and then smother in nutritional yeast. i use a bag and shake it up really well, then add more on top just before baking in the oven @ 350 degrees until crisp…
they don’t last long… and they are great on top of salads, soups, or just as they are!
just some fotos from my little stay-cation last week.
🙂
…i know, right?!
always.
oh, hi. just enjoying a macchiato on the porch… Continue reading
i should get paid to do reviews for companies like this – haha! {but seriously, feel free to email me with offers! ;)}
and i honestly love this product – and i recommend it to anyone!
especially for lunch at work, or for traveling, or for kids and family outings, or whatever… it’s so great!
what is it?! well i’m glad you asked 😀
it’s the portable, packable, freezable, transformable, incredible – *drum roll* Continue reading
i guess they’re actually purple potatoes – but, i sort of enhanced the colour just a tad to represent july 4th a little more 😉 Continue reading
hey gang.
i’m taking vacation this week – beginning wednesday. i am beyond ready for some time off, i just really hope i can easily make it through the next two days at work…
i wanted to share this recipe from last year, it was such a hit! it’s just a basic sugar cookie with a basic frosting and some fruit. super festive though… and yummmmmmy! i think i’m going to take the week off from blogging, as well… i just need to disconnect and get out in nature and rest and relax… i’ll be back next week. i hope you enjoy the holiday and these cookies!! 🙂

{from the archives}
this is not exactly up my typical healthy recipe alley – but if you’re going to go for it, GO FOR IT!
festive holiday sugar cookies…
i think they turned out pretty cute… oh, and delicious. Continue reading
missing new york and hair long-enough to pull in a ponytail…
i’ll get there soon… it’s growing sort of fast{ish}… okay not really at all. and i hate to blame it on colorado but i do… my hair always behaves funny here and it’s nothing like my east-coast hair…
whatever… sigh.
and on that note, have a great weekend! mercury is retrograde, in case you didn’t know… there is lots of information out there for those of you interested in reading more… just do a search. and be patient as you may encounter delays as per the very essence of MR. even as i typed this blog, my keyboard kept freezing up. and my music was skipping… haha.
one day i’ll talk about how i was born under MR. it’s rare, as am i… and usually i can articulate myself a little more effectively when mercury is slowing down for those few weeks every 4 months…
aaannnyway, enjoy the weekend!! 🙂
their season is ending soon… so grab ’em while you still can!
i look forward to them every year! i just love love love ’em! and i love how they keep for a good long time in the fridge!
i do lots of things with english peas…
i haven’t yet tried to pulverize them in a vitamix smoothie, though… but oh boy i just thought of this – i bet it would make a great spread with some garlic and hummus… mm mm, i may have to try that!
what do you like to do with your english peas?
do you know how to pick out a good watermelon?! … one that’s guaranteed to be ripe, juicy, and flavourful?!
well, for one thing – to guarantee the flavour and ripeness, it’s important to begin with quality.
i always opt for organic food {especially produce} when i can… organic produce is grown with more care, handled with more care, and therefore just plain tastes better… in my humble {and generally RIGHT} opinion 🙂
this sticker tells us that not only is this watermelon organic, but it’s fair trade. which {happily} means the farmers that grew this watermelon are paid a FAIR WAGE for their product and services. this is extremely important to me also because i’m a collective thinker – i am grateful for that farmer who took time to grow this beautiful fruit for me to enjoy. and i want him/her to get paid what they are worth for doing that service. fair trade kind of cuts out the middle man, if you will. you can read more about fair trade products here. the temps were absolutely perfect last week – 70-80 degrees during the day and cool nights that require only a light sweater, but flip flops are comfortable. the smell of the grill lingers in the air, the frangrance from the various blooms waft from every angle, the sun is warm, the air is warm, the days are long… and that means i take lots of little walks.
here’s a few shake-it app inspired fotos i snapped last week while wandering around my ‘hood…
devouring the best pastrami sammy EVER – from masterpiece delicatessen in the highlands… my new favourite spot!!
my neighbourhood kind of reminds me of new york…
enjoying my first latte in about a year… {half caff, only – definitely iced!} Continue reading
a little secret about me : i have battled with insomnia for about half my life.
i’ve gone back and forth in my head — “claiming it” by owning it and being honest {as i’ve done here}, invoking the law of attraction by saying “i sleep great!” – both seem to have the same effect… i’ve tried melatonin, valerian root and other random herbs, about 5 different kinds of mattresses, yoga, prayer, meditation, sleepy tea, alcohol, and a variety of other remedies to help in my battle. i even tried some feng shui to encourage the right energy during bedtime… i tried one or two prescription drugs but absolutely hated the side-effects and the dopey feeling the next day… one of them even gave me wacky lucid dreams, almost nightmares… i once tried to “donate my body to science” by participating in an insomnia-related study, but i didn’t qualify because i hadn’t tried enough prescription drugs… over-the-counter remedies help in the short-term, but that stuff is so bad for your liver and i also worried about dependency… i have to board up my windows and sleep with a mask usually, and that is in part due to my late work hours… i know i’m reasonably young but i’m not getting any younger and i’m at that age where this kind of crap is super important to me now. i don’t need to get 8-10 hours every night, but what i do need is to STAY asleep during the night.
